Norma Jean Verbeck, 74, of Philipsburg died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at her residence.
Born March 31, 1940 in Rush Township, she was a daughter of the late Walter Carney and Cora (Eckley) Carney Wilson and the step-daughter of the late Thomas Wilson.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, where she was flower coordinator and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Curves of Philipsburg and enjoyed reading and playing bingo.
She worked at the General Cigar Co., Navasky’s Clothing Co. and retired from the Presbyterian Home (Windy Hill Village), where she was a nurse’s aide.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Williams and her husband, Mike of Wallaceton and Pamela Schmidt and her husband, John of Benton, Ill., and two sons, Frank Verbeck and his wife, Tammy of Brisbin and Randy Verbeck and his wife, Penny of Morrisdale.
She is survived by a sister, Darlene Deacon and her husband, John of West Decatur; two brothers, Gerald Wilson and his wife, Kate of Philipsburg and James Carney of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Ed Ross and his wife, Kim, Billie Jo Crane and her husband, Michael and Megan Verbeck; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by her former first husband, Franklin Verbeck; her long-time companion, Franklin Bergey; a granddaughter, Autumn Marie Ross; an infant sibling; four brothers, Ed Carney, Robert Carney, Ronny Wilson and George Carney; and four sisters, Joyce Evans, Naomi Dotts, Margaret Turner and Lorraine Reams.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be in the Allport Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
