Paul Palovcsik, 91, of Clearfield died from this world to the world of Triumphant and Eternal on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014.
He was born June 23, 1923 in Wall (Pittsburgh), the son of the late Jonas and Susana (Smiko) Palovcsik.
In his early years, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he became a professional boxer in the late 1940’s.
He made a living through the years as a self-employed carpenter and mason. He later worked at Penelec Utility Co., Shawville, until his retirement.
He was known to be a “people” person and always willing to give an encouraging word or a helping hand. He was a champion of the underdog and devoted to reaching out and giving a hand-up, especially to veterans who had been denied their earned benefits.
Mr. Palovcsik proudly wore his World War II veteran baseball caps in support of military veterans everywhere.
He was a member of both the St. Francis Catholic and the West Side United Methodist Churches in Clearfield.
He had a pure and simple faith that witnessed to love and unity rather than denominational division. He often said, “God loves every person.”
Among his interests were golfing with buddies, enjoying the great outdoors, visiting the seashore, living in the country (Guinea Hill Road) for 40 years, traveling and residing in Gulf Shores during the cold winter months, watching baseball and wrestling events, meeting the guys for Monday morning breakfasts and welcoming his family home for special occasions.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Graham); his sons, Michael and his wife, Barbara of Milwaukee, Wis., Norman of State College; and Dennis and his wife, Terry Lee of Clearfield; his daughters, Cathy of Waterford and Susan Rogutski and her husband, Leonard of Catawissa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Nick of Allentown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Michael, George and Joseph; his sisters, Mary and Ann; and a granddaughter, Amy Palovcsik.
Per Mr. Palovcsik’s request, the family will celebrate a private viewing. A memorial celebration of his life will be open for friends and family in the spring of 2015.
