KANE – It has long been said that every free throw counts, whether it be at the start of game or at the end. They all add up and many, many times decides who wins and who tastes defeat.
The Curwensville Lady Tide girls basketball team found that out Friday night when they traveled to Kane and played the Lady Wolves.
Hitting on just 10 of 24 free throw attempts, the Lady Tide came up five points short in the 51-46 defeat at the hands of Kane.
In contrast, it could be said that the Lady Wolves won the game at the charity stripe as they connected on 18 of 29 attempts.
Curwensville had three girls foul out of the contest and had to rely on its bench more than normal; which was one positive to Rusty McCracken as the Tide coach said afterwards, “With three of our starting five fouling out we obviously turned to our bench and to those girl’s credit they played well. So the positive is that this was a grow up game for our bench that can help us down the road.”
The Lady Tide only outscored Kane after the first eight minutes 14-11 before the Lady Wolves would win the next three periods on its way to victory lane.
Ciara Strickland of Curwensville led all scorers with 18 points that included three three-pointers.
Lady Tide Shauna Guy and Hannah Dixon also had double figures in the losing effort. Guy netted 13, while Dixon added 10.
Taylor Morgan with 17, Trinity Clark with 13 and Camryn Cummings scoring 11 paced the Lady Wolves.
The junior varsity contest was also won by Kane, 46-8.
The Lady Tide (3-1) will be off until after Christmas when they play at Clearfield against the Lady Bison on Monday, December 29. Junior varsity tips off at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
