Donald J. Lobb, 84, of Houtzdale died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 at his residence. Born Aug. 27, 1930 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of John C. and Mable (Sankey) Lobb.
Mr. Lobb served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Conney Brothers Coal Co. until his retirement.
He was a member and past commander of the Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591 and served as American Legion District Deputy. He was a member of the Osceola Lodge F&AM 515 and the Jaffa Shrine. He was also a past Houtzdale mayor.
On Feb. 2, 1951 in the Houtzdale United Methodist Church, he married Lois Hutchinson Lobb, who preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2014.
He is survived by a son, James Lobb and his wife, Lori of Brisbin and two grandchildren, Andrew and Jessica Lobb.
Also surviving are a sister, Betty Carson of Brisbin; a brother, Tom Lobb and his wife, Sylvia of Jamestown, NY; a sister-in-law, Patti Lobb of Philipsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, with the Rev. Mark Melhorn officiating.
Burial will follow at the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
The Osceola Lodge F&AM will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
