Traffic Impacts Expected this Week as Shawville Bridge Work Continues

CLEARFIELD – With work to replace the Shawville Truss Bridge on Route 970 continuing, PennDOT cautions area drivers that they may encounter intermittent lane closures this week in the project area.

From today through Friday, drivers could encounter lane closures on Route 879 in the Shawville area during daylight hours (7 a.m. – 5 p.m.). Flaggers could be in the roadway and drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution.

Beam setting for the new bridge will take place Dec. 19-22, but that work is not expected to impact traffic. Drivers should remain alert for construction vehicles and exercise caution.

The new bridge is being built upstream from the existing one, allowing PennDOT to keep the truss bridge in service until the new one is complete. When work is finished in 2015, area drivers will benefit from smoother, safer travel over a modern structure. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $5 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
