Undefeated Lady Tide Hold Off Lady Elkers 42-36 for Third Win

RIDGWAY — The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team remained in the unbeaten ranks by grabbing a 24-14 lead by halftime and outlasting Ridgway 42-36 in Allegheny Mountain League South Division action Friday night.

Ciara Strickland and Hannah Dixon once again produced the bulk of the scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while Christine Lambert pulled in 14 rebounds to key the Lady Tide’s third victory, their second in the league.

Strickland swished a three-pointer off the opening tip, and Curwensville never trailed.

She accounted for nine of the Lady Tide’s 14 points in the first period on her way to passing Nate Glunt for fifth place on the school’s all-time scoring list for boys and girls.

Dixon helped Curwensville expand the lead with five points in the second quarter.

“We’re glad to get the win, but it was one of one of those road openers in which we didn’t shoot as well as we normally do,” coach Rusty McCracken said. “We didn’t shoot that good in the first half, and then we went cold. Hopefully, that’ll change in games to come.”

Emily Fullem, a six-foot freshman, had 11 points for the Lady Elkers, who are 0-4 with three AML-South losses.

Curwensville’s next outing will be a trip to Kane Friday.

Ridgway’s jayvees won the prelim 38-11.
