CLEARFIELD – Weather permitting, a project to improve traffic signals on Route 879 will get under way this week in Lawrence Township. Crews will be drilling for new signal pole foundations and will also perform underground borings between River Road and the Snappy’s/Industrial Park Road intersections.
Most work will take place off the roadway, with the potential for a few minor traffic delays, controlled by flaggers. Actual pole erection and installation of new signals will not take place until spring 2015.
Once complete, a new system of poles, controllers and signal heads will be in place. The new system will be interconnected and is expected to ease congestion in this corridor.
Overall work includes installation of signal supports, signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, detectable, sidewalk warning surfaces, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. Work is expected to finish in June of 2015. Dixon Electric of Claysburg is the contractor on this $812,000 project.
