LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University commencement will take place Dec. 13 at Thomas Fieldhouse beginning at 2 p.m. Brian C. Smith, a 1991 alumnus, will be the speaker for this prestigious ceremony.
Smith, a systems engineer for Apex Systems Inc., is a digital communications professional with more than 20 years of contracting experience with federal government Web sites. He has contributed a combination of technical and communications expertise to various Web sites for BASA, the U.S. Department of Education and currently for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Smith’s current focus with the EPA is to ensure that digital communications are accessible to those with disabilities. Additionally, he teaches mass communication at the College of Southern Maryland.
Smith graduated from Lock Haven University in 1991 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Smith also holds a Master of Arts in mass communication, as well as a Doctorate in education, from Oklahoma State University.
As a student at Lock Haven University, Smith was active in campus broadcast media and was station manager of WLHU. Additionally, Smith was selected for membership in several honor societies.
Degrees are officially granted to the applicants after the University certifies completion of all academic requirements. Lock Haven University will be graduating 23 Master degree candidates, 252 Bachelor degree candidates and 10 associate degree candidates.
