Joseph A. Pewanick, 85, of Hawk Run died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at UPMC Altoona in Altoona.
Born May 22, 1929 in Grassflat, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Patrick) Pewanick. He married the former Georgetta L. Cook on Oct. 3, 1953 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Winburne; she preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2006.
Mr. Penawick was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run. He was also a member of the Jednota Lodge, Branch 134, in Grassflat.
He was employed with the Department of Fleet Operations at the Penn State University until his retirement.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy J. Troxell in 2010; four sisters, Ann, Mary, Helen and Margaret Pewanick; and four brothers, John, Andrew and Edward Pewanick and an infant, Michael Pewanick.
He is survived by a daughter, Monica A. Crain and her husband, Robert of Houtzdale and three sisters, Verna Master and her husband, John of Stephens City, Va., Dorothy Pewanick of State College and Barbara Surovec and her husband, Michael of Bellefonte.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, with the Rev. David Perry officiating. Burial will be at the Grassflat-Lanse Lutheran Cemetery in Grassflat.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
