Esther L. Johnson, 98, of Philipsburg died on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg.
Born Sept. 15, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clem Sr. and Susan (Lamb) Watson.
She married Edwin J. Longley Sr. on Jan. 30, 1937 in Philipsburg; he preceded her in death in 1976.
She then married Elwood Johnson on Dec. 2, 1978; he preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1989.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg and of the Christian Women’s Club of Philipsburg. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.
Mrs. Johnson was employed as a teller with the Bell Telephone Company in the Chester and Media offices for 22 years until her retirement in 1979. She was a 1934 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Longley Jr.; a brother, Clem Watson Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Owens; a sister-in-law, Bette Watson; and a brother-in-law, Edward Cieslar.
She is survived by a son, Ronald D. Longley and his wife, Arlene of Westchester; a step-son, Robert Johnson and his wife, Martha of Clermont, Fla.; a sister, Betty J. Cieslar of Philipsburg; and a brother, Thomas L. Watson of Philipsburg.
She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Mona Longley of Sandy Ridge; six grandchildren, including a grandson, Garth Longley, to whom she was especially close; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg with Lay-person Donald Dinant officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
