CLEARFIELD – Members of the Clearfield Area Bison Band performed their halftime show and stadium jams for family, friends and fans on Nov. 25 during an indoor concert in the newly-renovated Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School auditorium.

The Bison Band Director Raymond Mandell; Assistant Director, Andrew Rothrock; Percussion Director, Tyler Hart; and Band Front Director Jessica Bailey were recognized for their hard work and dedication to providing music education in the school.

Student section leaders and drum majors were also acknowledged for their leadership and support of their peers for making this another successful marching band season.

Researchers from the Northwestern University report that music makes kids more intelligent.  Music training causes changes in the student’s brain, allowing children to process sounds more easily. These increased abilities translate into improved reading and speech skills.

Students involved in taking music lessons are found to have improved concentration, memory and focus. Most students in the Clearfield music program are honor or high honor students with most going on to post-secondary education after graduation, according to the music department.

The largest and most important benefit to student musicians, more than the music itself, is the sense of a team,” say researchers. “Every kid, regardless of their ability level, so long as there is effort, is a member of the team.”
