Headwaters PA to Participate in #GivingTuesday

DUBOIS – On Dec. 2, Headwaters PA will participate in the national #GivingTuesday Celebration.

It will celebrate “a day dedicated to giving”  when charities, families, businesses, communities, students, retailers and more will all come together for #GivingTuesday, a movement to celebrate giving and to kick-off the holiday giving season.

#GivingTuesday inspires personal philanthropy and encourages better and smarter charitable giving during the holiday season, showing that the world is as good as it gives, according to Heather Conrad, the Headquarters director of development.

She said that last year, more than 100,000 organizations in 46 countries came to celebrate #GivingTuesday, resulting in more than $19 million in donations to nonprofits.  “We ask that you join the movement and help ‘get out the give this Dec 2,’” said Conrad.

“I’m inviting you to participate in #GivingTuesday by being a supporter of Headwaters PA.  Headwaters was founded in 1978 to educate local citizens about conservation issues, to empower community environmental leaders to spearhead projects aimed toward safeguarding our natural resources and to ultimately lead to a positive change in the areas we serve.”

She continued, “If you’ve ever enjoyed an afternoon on a rail-trail, spent a day fishing in a restored stream, hunted state game lands, wandered through the Allegheny National Forest, or stopped by to enjoy your local Farmer’s Market, you have benefited from our work.”

Headwaters, she explained, relies upon support from numerous organizations and individuals to ensure the success of environmental, agricultural and economic development projects throughout the region.  She said its impact area spans 12 counties in north-central Pennsylvania, and its work can be seen in cleaner streams, miles of hiking, biking, and all-terrain vehicle trails, environmental education programs and smarter agricultural practices.

According to Conrad, the retail industry has long benefitted from seasonal shopping that symbolically kicks off with “Black Friday,” a day that has since inspired Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

She said that #GivingTuesday now serves as a seasonal celebration that proves the holidays can be both about giving and giving back.  “The success of this event depends upon the collective efforts of a unique group of partners and supporters like you,” she said.

Please call or e-mail Headwaters to discuss ways to work together, or visit its Web site to make a donation today.  “Help us make this the biggest #GivingTuesday year yet,” said Conrad.
