Robert W. “Beaker” Jones, 82, of Ramey died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at UPMC Altoona. He was born Feb. 17, 1932, a son of the late Howard and Mary Edna (Osewalt) Jones.
He was a 1951 graduate of the former Madera High School where he excelled in football. He later played for the Chambersburg semi-professional football team.
He was a long-time parishioner of the Ramey United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Osceola Mills Masonic Lodge No. 515 F&AM and of the Altoona Jaffa Shrine.
He was a life member of the Ramey Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past member of the Houtzdale Water Authority and a former Ramey Borough mayor. He was also a former member of the Beulah Cemetery Committee.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a dragline operator and a pit foreman in the strip mine business. He was also a crane operator with the IBEW Union.
He enjoyed hunting, playing his harmonica and especially time with his family.
On Oct. 17, 1951 in the former Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Madera, he married Margaret L. “Peggy” Grattan Jones. She survives in Ramey.
He is survived by a daughter and a son, Cindy A. Faughner and her husband, Greg of Mount Holly, NJ and Robert H. Jones and his wife, Marty of Ramey.
He is survived by five grandchildren, Scott Jones and his wife, Erin of Janesville, Desiree Williams and her husband, Ottis of Ramey, Ryan Faughner and his wife, Lisa of Cherry Hill, NJ, Lindsey Faughner of Chicago, Ill., and Emily Clevenstine and her husband, Jason of Seattle, Wash., and five great-grandchildren, Brandon Wolfe, Onna Williams, Zoey Williams, Dominic Clevenstine and Ronan Faughner.
He is also survived by a brother, Clair Jones and his wife, Donna of Homer City and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Clyde E. Jones, Betty Zazursky, Mildred DuBroy, Gene Jones, Harry Jones and Ruth Crago.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday and from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kruise Funeral Home, Ramey, with Pastor Clare L. Pannebaker officiating.
Graveside services will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.
At the family’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Ramey United Methodist Church or to the Clearfield County Meals on Wheels Program.
