Silas R. “Pat” Thompson III, 75, of Philipsburg died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at his residence.
Born April 17, 1939, he was the son of the late Silas R. Jr. and Florence (Brown) Thompson. He married the former Eleanor Jean McKay on June 22, 1963 in Philipsburg; she preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2008.
Mr. Thompson was Episcopalian by faith and had served in the U.S. Navy. He had been a truck driver for various companies, retiring from Eagle Trucking in St. Mary’s in 2008.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Forrest Thompson and a sister, Harriet Ann Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Tara L. Holden and her husband, Mart of Philipsburg; two sons, Patrick R. Thompson and his wife, Shelly and Kevin M. Thompson and his wife, Tonya, both of Philipsburg; a sister, Virginia Lee Smith and her husband, Harry “Ned” of Philipsburg; and a brother, John Thompson and his wife, Ruth of Philipsburg.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Taylor, Amanda, Levi, Silas, Carly, Jade, Jeffrey, Presley and T.J. Thompson, Wyatt and Chandler Holden and Garrett Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Thompson’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg.
