Bernice M. Modzel, 91, of Forest died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Dayspring Personal Care Home, where she resided for eight years.
Born April 18, 1923 in Grassflat, she was the daughter of Millard and Eva (Emigh) Curley. She was a member of the Forest Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Mrs. Modzel was a published writer and avid reader. She worked as a sales clerk for 35 years at Best Jewelers, Philipsburg. She graduated from the former Cooper Township High School in the class of 1940.
In 1944, she wed John Modzel. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2006.
She’s survived by a daughter, Marcia Houston and her husband, Roper of Forest and three sons, Dennis Modzel of Winburne, Donald Modzel and his wife, Karen of Forest and Greg Modzel and his wife, Regina of Morrisdale.
She’s also survived by eight grandchildren, Roper Houston, Mark Houston, Donald Modzel Jr., Dennis Modzel Jr., Kristen Quick, Heather Barquist, Matthew Modzel and Emigh Modzel and six great-grandchildren, Katelyn Houston, Abigail Houston, Tyson Modzel, Kaleb Quick, Roye Houston and Lydia Quick.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Forest Baptist Church with the Pastor Sue Radel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Forest Baptist Church.
