Houtzdale Man Jailed on Terroristic Threats Charges

HOUTZDALE – A 47-year-old Houtzdale man has been jailed on terroristic threats charges, reported the state police at Clearfield today.

On Sunday, state police received a 302 warrant from Clearfield-Jefferson Mental Health for Brian E. Burfield, 47, of Houtzdale. Burfield had allegedly directed numerous threats towards four victims.

Upon investigation it was found that Burfield had threatened to shoot everyone inside his residence. He had also threatened to douse everyone in kerosene and then set them on fire, state police said.

Burfield was also found to be in possession of a rifle and shotgun; several explosive devices; approximately 2 grams of marijuana; and several items of drug paraphernalia. A Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) responded to Burfield’s residence and took him into custody, according to state police.

Burfield has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was arraigned and lodged at the Clearfield County Jail with his bail being set at $100,000. Burfield’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 3 at the CCJ.
