State Police to Participate in “Click It or Ticket” Program

PUNXSUTAWNEY – The Pennsylvania State Police will participate in the “Click It or Ticket” traffic enforcement program from Monday through Nov. 30.

If a motorist is stopped for a traffic violation and isn’t wearing a seatbelt, they will receive two citations. Further, they will not only be cited for the traffic violation, but also for the seatbelt violation.

During the “Click It or Ticket” program, troopers will be adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward any violation of the commonwealth’s seatbelt and child passenger restraint laws.

In conjunction with this aggressive enforcement approach, troopers throughout Troop C will conduct both regulatory and child safety seat checkpoints.

“By buckling up and using child safety seats properly, you significantly increase your chances of surviving a crash,” state police said, noting that Pennsylvania law stipulates that children under 8 years must be secured in a federally-approved child safety seat while riding in a vehicle.

Failure to comply with Pennsylvania law can result in fines and costs exceeding $90, state police said. To help parents safely transport children, state police will conduct free child passenger safety seat checks.

“These checkpoints serve to reduce the number of improperly installed child safety seats, to identify defective seats, detect seats affected by manufacturer recalls and to provide an opportunity to answer questions regarding the child passenger safety seat law,” state police said.

In Clearfield County, state police will offer a child passenger safety seat check from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Clearfield Fire Department, located at 108 E. Cherry St., Clearfield. For more information, please call 814-857-3800.

Troopers will examine all child restraint seats for proper installation. Parents will also be provided with information on correcting any deficiencies.
