Sophia M. LeGrand, 88, a resident of Colonial Courtyard, Tyrone, and formerly of Philipsburg, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at Colonial Courtyard, Tyrone.
Born June 9, 1926 in Gearhartville, she was the daughter of the late Herbert A. and Isabel (Cushard) Pierson. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg where she served on many committees.
She enjoyed playing bingo, doing arts and crafts, playing cards with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
On June 21, 1947 at the Gearhartville Free Methodist Church, she married William J. LeGrand Sr., whom died April 2,1992.
She is survived by a son, George T. LeGrand and his wife, MariBeth of Bellwood; a daughter-in-law, Patti Ann LeGrand of Philipsburg; a sister-in-law, Angeline Pierson of Florida; five grandchildren, Julie Varnish and her husband, Jason, Stacie LeGrand Dombroski, Thomas LeGrand and his wife, Paige, Greg LeGrand and his wife, Dana and Rachael Chamberlin and her husband, Allen; and 10 great-grandchildren, Addison, Jack, Giovanni, Annie, Siler, Kathryn, Sophia, Zoe, Maxwell and Samuel.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William J. “Bill” LeGrand Jr.; three brothers, Bernard, Harold “Tweed” and Herbert Pierson; and three sisters, Mildred Daniels, Mary Hutton and Euphemia Pierson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
