Born August 6, 1926 at Philipsburg, he was a son of Joseph M. and Elizabeth (Ondo) Boron.
Dr. Boron graduated from St. Vincent’s College in 1949 and attended The Pennsylvania State University, where he did graduate work in biochemistry and taught anatomy. In 1957, he graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. While at Jefferson, he was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, Kappa Beta Phi, the Pasteur Society, Samuel Gross Surgical Society, Thomas Physiological Society and the Hare Medical Society.
He served his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital, known today as The Cleveland Clinic, from 1957-1959. In 1959, Dr. Boron began private practice in general medicine with Dr. William Schwartz in Bellefonte. From 1965-1968, he completed a three-year residency in radiology and nuclear medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital. Dr. Boron was in the first class to receive a medical license to practice in nuclear medicine. In 1968, Dr. Boron joined the Clearfield Hospital Medical Staff and continued his career as a radiologist at the DuBois Regional Medical Center, and worked in private office practice in nuclear cardiology in Clearfield until his retirement in 2007.
Dr. Boron was a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Association, Clearfield Medical Association, The Society of Nuclear Medicine, American Board of Nuclear Medicine, American College of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Medicine. He was honored as a 2004 Distinguished Fellow by the American Society of Nuclear Medicine. In 2007, he was honored by the Pennsylvania Medical Society for 50 years of service.
He was an active member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield, and attended daily Mass after his retirement. He was a proud supporter of The Nittany Lion Club and The Penn State President’s Club and enjoyed Penn State football for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Betsy B. Fargo and husband, Robert, of Washington, Pa; and sons, John R. Boron and wife, Brenda, of Mount Lebanon and William P. Boron and wife, Anne, of Strongsville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Megan Fargo Clouner and her husband, Jon, Erik Fargo, Erin Fargo, Madison Boron, Olivia Boron, Alexandra Boron, Brooks Boron and Bryce Boron; and one great-granddaughter, Kinley Clouner.
Dr. Boron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Helen Markley Boron whom he wed Aug. 11, 1950 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg; a son, Robert Alan Boron; a sister, Bernadine Boron Shoff; and a brother, Edward Boron.
Honoring his wishes, a private Catholic Mass was held for the family at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Mount Lebanon, with interment at Philipsburg Cemetery.
