Trees – Without Leaves, Parker Dam
Saturday, Nov. 8
Meet at 2 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Most of us have done a leaf collection before, usually to help us learn to identify the trees all around us. But identifying trees when the leaves are off can be challenging. During this walk, we will be looking at bark, twig and growth patterns, and other clues as to the identity of individual trees. The walk will be easy, but please be dressed appropriately for the weather. Parker Dam State Park is located at 28 Fairview Rd., Penfield. Call 814-765-0630 for more information.
Turkey Dinner

Saturday, Nov. 8
There will be a free turkey dinner with the Karthaus Volunteer Fire Co. from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. In addition to a home-style dinner, there will be a Chinese auction. The Karthaus Volunteer Fire Co. is located at 10 Hurxthal St. in Karthaus.
Skull ID, Parker Dam
Saturday, Nov. 8
Meet at 6 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Sometimes the only clue we have to an animal’s identity is what gets left behind, including parts of the animal itself. Continue to hone your identification skills with skulls. Learn to identify animal skulls by using a “skull key” – a dichotomous key that will guide your observations to arrive at an answer. You may be surprised at how much you can learn about an animal by observing its skull. Parker Dam State Park is located at 28 Fairview Rd., Penfield. Call 814-765-0630 for more information.
