Obituary Notice: Martha Ellen Mossberger

Martha Ellen Mossberger, 90, of DuBois died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at the DuBois Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 5, 1924 to Samuel C. and Grace (Dirr) Brandenburg in Garrett, Ind.

She was a homemaker for most of her life. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She belonged to numerous clubs and organizations throughout her life.

She also worked for many years as an aide in a public library in Amherst, NY and as a secretary in the Education Department of Westminster College, New Wilmington. Most recently, she was a member of the Page Girls book club in DuBois, and as its oldest member, she was loved and admired by the other members.

She attended the First United Methodist Church in DuBois from the time she moved to DuBois in 2005 and was a member of the Vivian Brown Sunday school class. Prior to that, she attended the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church in New Wilmington, where she maintained her membership.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She will be fondly remembered for her beauty, charm, generosity and wit.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha Jill (Wendell) Wilson of New Wilmington and Jean (Jonathan) Cole of DuBois; six grandchildren, Jason (Leanne) Wilson and Julie (Patrick) Sommers, both of New Wilmington, Jonathan (Kathryn) Wilson of Hermitage, Sarah (Mark) Heier of Kirkland, Wash., Jennifer Cole of Philadelphia and Dr. Christopher Cole of Fayetteville, NC; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Marlene Bowmar and Marcelene Brandenburg. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial and celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the First United Methodist Church of Dubois. Pastor Lance Tucker will be officiating.
