Dr. Fred Shoff Read, 69, of Curwensville (Marron) and the beloved husband to Susan K. (Swan) Read, the loving father to Brian M. Read and Shari L. (Roger) Solberg and the cherished grandfather to Erin Elizabeth Solberg, passed into his heavenly home Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born to the late Seth and Dorothy Shoff Read on Nov. 14, 1944. He graduated from the Curwensville Area High School.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Ark., and his Medical Technology degree from the University of Arkansas.
His dental education was at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Upon completion he served as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes, Ill.
He practiced general dentistry in Curwensville for 37 years and in the state dental system for 2.5 years.
Dr. Read is survived by his wife, Susan of 42 years; his son, Brian of Hollidaysburg; his daughter, Shari (Roger) and his granddaughter, Erin of Malta, Mon.; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Julia (McCracken) Read and maternal grandparents, Harry and Ruby (Rowles) Shoff.
Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Baptist Church, Ansonville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Richard Engle Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Watts Cemetery, Curwensville (Greenwood Township).
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
