CLEARFIELD – At last night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors approved a resolution that no elected official of the township will be permitted to hold employment with the township, effective Jan. 1, 2015.
After a 30-minute executive session, the supervisors re-adjourned and approved to advertise for the township’s roadmaster position. Supervisor Chairman Bill Lawhead said the township will provide a benefit package for the full-time position.
Supervisor Ed Brown said this action will eliminate the “politics” among the supervisors.
In other personnel business, the supervisors passed a resolution to accept the health plan as presented from the bargaining units for the township police and road crew.
The supervisors passed a resolution to approve pursuing an Early Intervention Program Grant through the state Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant application will be filed jointly with Clearfield Borough and will fund a feasibility study to explore a possible merger between Lawrence Township and Clearfield Borough into one municipal government with a proposed home rule charter.
Bids were opened for winter road materials from Hanson Aggregates, Glenn O. Hawbaker, New Enterprise, and Woodland Equipment. The supervisors awarded the bid to Woodland Equipment as follows:
- 1,200 ton 6S anti-skid, 16.86 per ton; 1,800 Ton 1B limestone, 16.97 per ton; 1,000 ton 2B limestone, 15.35 per ton.
Secretary/Treasurer Barb Shaffner reported the township was approved for Dirt and Gravel Road Grant through the Clearfield County Conservation District for $16,458.69 for replacement of 2,600 feet storm drain pipe and other road improvements.
Per the original application presented at the township’s July 15 meeting, the total proposed cost of the project is $38,922.99, with the balance of the cost, $22,464.40, to be provided with in-kind contributions.
The supervisors also approved a policy that the township will not be held liable for mail boxes located in the road right-of-way that happen to be damaged by the township snow plowing crew.
The supervisors set their first 2015 budget planning meeting for Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
