Pool Association Receives Grant Award from DCNR

CLEARFIELD – Thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the Clearfield Swimming Pool Association has been awarded an additional $100,000 to rehabilitate the parking lot at the Clearfield Community Swimming Pool.

In 2012, DCNR awarded the association a $500,000 grant for the rehabilitation of the Clearfield Community Swimming Pool. The association combined the contributions of the community with the 2012 DCNR grant to transform the pool into a modern aquatic complex through a $1 million renovation that debuted this past summer swimming season.

Brian Marshall, president of the Clearfield Swimming Pool Association, said he’s pleased that DCNR continues to recognize the importance of the pool to the Clearfield community.  “For nearly 50 years, the community pool has provided the citizens and families of the Clearfield area with a safe place to spend their summers.

“With this additional grant from DCNR, we will be able to address the one remaining major aspect of the facility that the prior project did not address.”   According to Marshall, the existing parking lot was paved many years ago over a base that was not properly prepared, and has resulted in a deteriorated surface. “The grant requires local matching funds, so the association is counting on the community to help us raise the additional money.  We hope to be able to raise the matching funds and have the new parking lot complete for the summer 2016 swimming season.  If we are not able to raise matching contributions, we will not receive the grant funds.”

Community Recreation and Conservation Program grants, like those received by the association, are awarded to municipalities and non-profit organizations for recreation, park, trail and conservation projects.  In 2014, DCNR awarded 219 grants totaling approximately $33 million.

Funding for the grant comes from the Environmental Stewardship Fund.  Contributions to the local fundraising campaign to match the state grant may be made payable to the Clearfield Swimming Pool Association and sent to P.O. Box 291, Clearfield, PA 16830.

The Clearfield Swimming Pool Association is a United Way agency and is a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
