Andrew J. Hanes, 78, of Philipsburg died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at his home.

Born Jan. 3, 1936 in Emporium, he was the son of the late Andrew and Irene (Heser) Hanes Gerg.  He married Mary M. (Aufderklam) Hanes on March 14, 1976 in Johnsonburg; she survives at home.

Mr. Hanes was Christian by faith and was a Navy Corpsman, serving with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0103 in St. Mary’s; the VFW Post No. 3450 in Philipsburg; the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent No. 58 in Philipsburg; and the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.

He was a retired meat cutter and received his general education diploma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kurtis Lynn Hanes and a sister, Gloria Breckenridge.

Along with his wife, Mr. Hanes is survived by a daughter, Audra C. Hanes-Miller and her husband, Michael Miller of West Decatur; two sons, Lynn Karl Muller of Virginia and Andrew L. Hanes and his wife, Jennifer of Philipsburg; five grandchildren, William R. Muller, Josalyn M. Miller, Caden M. Miller, Gavin Lynn Hanes and Trinity K. Hanes.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later time.

Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.

Heath Funeral Home of Osceola Mills is in charge of the arrangements.
