Brockway Upends Golden Tide 31-14

BROCKWAY – After four straight home games the Curwensville Area High School football squad hit the road on Friday night and traveled to Brockway to play the Rovers in another crucial Allegheny Mountain League (AML) South Division contest.

The last time the Golden Tide boarded the bus for a road trip was on September 12 when they defeated Coudersport, 35-6.

In the end though on this Friday night it was the Rovers picking up the win, 31-14, dealing the Golden Tide a defeat that knocked them out of any possibility of winning the AML South Division.

Brockway improved to 5-3 on the season while the Tide dropped to 6-2.

The Rovers drew first blood in the opening quarter on a nine yard touchdown pass from Brandon Martini to Anthony Isabella at the 8:42 point. Jarrett Esposito’s PAT made it 7-0 in favor of Brockway.

Curwensville answered right back in just two plays as freshman Nick Stewart ran for 46 yards right before Jake Terry hit Travis Lansberry from 34 yards out to even the score at 7-7 after Heather Thorp’s extra point.

The Tide score came at the 8:08 mark of the first quarter, just 34 seconds after the Rover TD.

Brockway went out in front in the second quarter on another Martini to Isabella touchdown strike. This one from 14 yards at the 10:52 mark. Esposito added the PAT to give Brockway the lead once again, 14-7.

27 seconds later though the Golden Tide knotted the battle again, this time at 14-14, on a 72 yard touchdown bomb from Terry again to Lansberry. Thorp’s PAT was good giving the Tide senior place kicker 30 out of 32 PAT attempts on the year.

Esposito would give Brockway a 17-14 lead right before the intermission, connecting on an 18 yard field goal with 39 seconds remaining.

In the second half Curwensville would drive inside the Rover 20 yard line twice, only to come away empty each time.

Brockway scored a touchdown in each of the last two frames to ice the game.

Mark Latuska went 87 yards for the Rovers in the third and Anthony Benson ran it in from 22 yards out in the fourth. Esposito was perfect on both PATs.

Curwensville is back at Riverside Stadium next Friday evening, in another big AML contest, as Ridgway comes calling. The Elkers ( 7-1) saw their unbeaten season end on Friday night, getting shocked by Union 32-7. Kick off is slated for 7 pm.
