CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School Key Club is trying to scare up some funds and fun this October by participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

This is an opportunity for local students to collect donations instead of candy for a cause. All money collected by the school’s Key Club this October through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will support The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).

Each day about 160 newborns die from tetanus, a disease that threatens millions of mothers and newborns as a result of unhygienic childbirth practices.

The goal of The Eliminate Project is to raise $110 million to support UNICEF and its partners in their efforts to eliminate MNT from the planet. The Eliminate Project will protect millions of women and their future babies who are at risk in more than 30 countries.

To support this global campaign, the Key Club has set a goal to raise $1,500 this October.

It costs $1.80 to provide a series of three vaccine doses to women of childbearing age. But in many areas, especially those where healthcare is limited, millions of women have not been immunized. The Eliminate Project will provide funds to immunize women of childbearing age, protecting both them and their future babies.

Please look for students from the junior-senior high school this October with Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes. If you are interested in donating, please contact a Key Club member or Key Club advisor Tangi Borden at the Clearfield Junior-Senior High at 814-765-2401 for more information.
