Three District Senior Community Centers to Receive State Grants, Says Gabler

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) has announced that three senior community centers in the 75th Legislative District have been awarded grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

The department is providing $2 million in funding to 67 centers across the Commonwealth in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

“This funding will help our senior centers to better meet the needs of the people they serve,” said Gabler. “These centers provide important services such as nutritious meals and also serve as a lifeline for those who also seek social interaction.

“They are a critical community resource that offers programs to improve the well-being of our older residents.”

The grant program is in its second year and is part of the largest-ever single investment in home- and community-based services through the Department of Aging.

The 550 senior community centers throughout Pennsylvania offer a wide variety of programs and services that may include: health and wellness, nutritious meal programs, enrichment programs, educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, and social and recreational activities.

In addition, centers serve as a resource for older adults to obtain information on department programs and services that promote health and independence.
