Samuel L. Williams, 86, of Falls Creek died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 13, 1927 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Theopolis and Leona (Snyder) Williams.
On Dec. 13, 1979, he married Carolyn (Brylinski) Williams. She survives.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He retired as a machinist after many years of service in Cape Cod, Mass.
He was a 1945 graduate of the DuBois Area High School, where he was active in gymnastics, wrestling and baseball. He was an avid sports fan and had served on the DuBois school board.
Mr. Williams was one of the founders of the U.S. Wrestling Officials Association, where he served as vice president. He was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006, where he was given a lifetime achievement award.
He is survived by his son, Samuel L. Williams II of Florida; his step-son, Mark J. Lewis-Jones of Panama; his step-daughter, Meghan Lewis-Jones of Nevada; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwenda Williams; a step-son, Matthew Lewis Jones; three brothers, Robert, John and twin brother, Tom; and two sisters, Maxine and Nancy.
There will be no public visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
