Charles L. Jones, 77, of (Chester Hill) Philipsburg died Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at his home.
Born May 13, 1937 in Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late Ralph and Frances (Frontino) Jones. He married Marjorie J. (Williams) Jones on Oct. 19, 1979 in Port Matilda; she survives at home.
Mr. Jones attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Philipsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a prisoner of war and received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the VFW Post No. 5020 and the American Legion No. 313, both in Osceola Mills.
He worked in preventative maintenance for heating and air-conditioning for Penn State University. He was a 1957 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Along with his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by three daughters, Shirley Maney and her husband, Herb of Frenchville, Mary Hidvegi and her husband, Marcus of Wichita, Kan., and Patty Smith and her husband, James of Philipsburg; two sons, Charles Jones of West Decatur and James Dillon and his wife, Carol of Grassflat; a sister, Catherine Zurick of Homer City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, with Pastor John Versaw officiating. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
