Dominic J. Petrone, 101, of Clearfield died on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born July 3, 1913 in Reynoldsville, a son of the late Luigi and Thomasine (Malogoni) Petrone. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church of Clearfield.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 409 and the Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189, both of Clearfield.
Upon graduation from the Curwensville High School, he worked at the Elk Tanning Company in Curwensville. Prior to and after World War II, he worked at the Harbison-Walker Refractories Company in Clearfield.
With the closing of Harbison-Walker, he was employed at the Clearfield Bowling Lanes, working into his late 90’s.
His dedication and long service at the bowling lanes and to bowling resulted in numerous awards and honors presented by Allegheny Mountain Bowling Association, including membership into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 2005.
Mr. Petrone, along with his five brothers, served during World War II with the U.S. Army and Navy. He served as a staff sergeant in Sicily and Italy.
He enjoyed life and people and was one of a handful whose cup was always at least half full. In addition to family, he enjoyed reading and gardening and supplied family near and far with the fruits of his labors.
He’s survived by a son, Louis Nathan Petrone and his brothers, Arnold ‘Herb’ Petrone and his wife, Jeanne of Curwensville and James Petrone and his wife, Rhetta of Tampa, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Petrone was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Natoli; his parents; his brothers; Albert, Philip and Gabriel Petrone; and his sisters, Blanche Pozniak, Bredamine Petrone, Margaret Tucker and Violetta Petrone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Fr. John Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield.
