Three Charged in Bedford County Homicide Case

HYNDMAN, Pa. — Investigators in Bedford County have released information about the death of James Deneen.

The 36-year-old’s body was found Thursday night in a Volkswagon Beetle that had been lit on fire in Hyndman. Authorities say Deneen died from a gunshot wound to the head.

“The Pennsylvania State Police responded to a vehicle fire on Tiger Valley Road in Londonderry Township. They discovered human remains in the vehicle,” said District Attorney Bill Higgins.

Higgins said Jonta Bishop, 18, shot Deneen in Buffalo Mills, then loaded his body into the trunk of the car before setting it on fire nine miles away. Police charged Bishop with homicide, arson and other charges, including tampering with evidence.

Police also charged Nickolas Forbes and his mother, Kimberlee Forbes, with arson, tampering with evidence and other charges.

“They are essentially involved after the fact. They were involved in helping Jonta [Bishop] clean up the murder scene and dispose of the body,” Higgins said.

Court paperwork says Bishop claims Deneen was trying to rob him when he was shot. The criminal complaint also details Nickolas Forbes and Kimberlee Forbes’ involvement in the burning of clothing and evidence the night of Deneen’s death.

Bishop and the Forbes are scheduled to be in court Oct. 1 for a preliminary hearing. All three are in the Bedford County Jail. Bishop is being held without bond.
