Lantern Walk to Feature 100 Years of History
DUBOIS – The DuBois Area Historical Society’s seventh annual Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk will cover more history than ever before when it takes to the streets on Oct. 11.
In November of 1914, the Borough of DuBois voted to become a Third Class City. Much has happened in the 100 years since that vote and this year’s walk will try to cover some of it.
Lutz Named Rotary Outstanding Citizen
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Rotary Club named its “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” earlier this week and Flo Lutz of Clearfield received the award.
Committee Rotarians Tom Lenker, Eugene Williams and Ron Strattan were on hand at the Arrowhead Restaurant in Clearfield to welcome Lutz. Lutz was accompanied by her more than 20 family members from Smethport, Chambersburg and friends from various clubs and organizations in the area as well as Rotarians and guests.
Moore Gets Lengthy State Prison Sentence for Gun Shop Burglaries
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man accused of three gun shop burglaries was given a lengthy state prison sentence in Clearfield County Court.
Brett Andrew Moore, 25, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy, burglary, theft by unlawful taking, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief and firearms not to be carried without a license in relation to the burglary of L.B. Toney’s Alamo Gun Shop in DuBois on Aug. 28, 2013 and two burglaries of Bob’s Army & Navy Store in Clearfield in September of 2013.
He was sentenced by Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to a total of 10 to 20 years in state prison.
Pennsylvania Commits to Action Plan to Improve State Waters and Chesapeake Bay
HARRISBURG – The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced its commitment work with bay partners and interested stakeholders to develop to an action plan to reach the goals outlined in the recently signed Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement.
DuBois City Council Focuses on Beautification
DUBOIS – City residents will now be subject to Council Bill No. 1895, an ordinance which amended Chapter 5 of the Code Ordinances of the City of DuBois.
This ordinance added Part 6 “…providing for the issuance of tickets for those offenses as defined by resolution rather than citations as the initial form of due process thereby promoting the best interests of residents of the city of DuBois by permitting the resolution of an alleged code enforcement violation …without resorting to the courts to resolve the matter,” explained City Solicitor Toni Cherry.
Maney: PGP to Withdraw Tax Appeal
CLEARFIELD – Pennsylvania Grain Processing will withdraw its tax appeal, announced Sam Maney, business administrator for the Clearfield Area School District, at Monday night’s regular board meeting.
PGP had appealed the taxes assessed on its property. However, Maney said he was contacted last week by Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott, who advised of PGP’s plans to withdraw its tax appeal.
Trial Under Way for Woman Accused of Shooting Nurse
CLEARFIELD – The trial got under way yesterday for an Osceola Mills woman accused of shooting her home care nurse in December of 2012. Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman is presiding over the case.
Marlene Kenjora, 71, of Osceola Mills has been charged with criminal attempt/murder of the first degree; aggravated assault; recklessly endangering another person; and simple assault.
District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. is presenting the case on behalf of the commonwealth. Kenjora is being represented by defense attorney Ron Collins of Clearfield.
Leader in Natural Gas Industry to Receive Alumni Fellow Award, Speak on Campus
DUBOIS – David Spigelmyer, president of the Pittsburgh-based Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) will receive the 2014 Penn State Alumni Fellow award for Penn State DuBois, and is scheduled to speak on campus about his journey from Penn State DuBois student, to a leader in the natural gas industry.
Kenjora Found Guilty of Shooting Nurse
CLEARFIELD – Jurors deliberated for nearly three hours Tuesday afternoon before finding an Osceola Mills woman guilty of shooting her home care nurse in the head on Dec. 6, 2012.

DUBOIS – Clearfield County Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a counterfeit checks case at the Shop ‘n Save Supermarket in Sandy Township, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. today.
Brown Found Guilty in Aggravated Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – Jovan Brown, 26, of DuBois was found guilty of beating a man at a party near the Penn State DuBois campus in October of 2013, after a bench trial before Judge Paul E. Cherry on Wednesday.
Brown was found guilty of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was found not guilty of three counts of simple assault.
Clearfield Couple Appears for Hearings in Assault Rifle Theft Case
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield couple allegedly linked to a recent assault rifle theft at the Bob’s Army & Navy Store appeared for their preliminary hearings during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Committee OKs Gabler Bill On Hunting With Air-, Gas-Powered Weapons
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Matt Gabler’s (R-Clearfield/Elk) bill that could allow for hunting with air- or gas-powered weapons in Pennsylvania has earned approval by the House Game and Fisheries Committee.
“This bill would not automatically allow these weapons to be used for hunting, but it does give the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) the option to allow them,” Gabler said.
Community Action, Church Seeking Assistance for Food Pantry
CLEARFIELD – Central Pennsylvania Community Action Inc. (CPCA) and the Trinity United Methodist Church have worked together to provide the Clearfield Food Pantry, located at the church on 121 S. Second St., to the Clearfield community for the past 15 years.
The food pantry is the largest in the county. Last year, the food pantry served 2,381 unduplicated consumers and 1,059 families, providing them with 13,264 food boxes, according to CPCA Executive Director Stacy Locastro.
Plans Under Way for 19th Annual Charity Auction
CLEARFIELD – The 2014 Auction Committee is collecting donations and sponsorships for the upcoming 19th annual Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction.
This year’s auction will be held on Oct. 9, at the Knights of Columbus in Clearfield. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and various games of chance.
Pennsylvania Elk Country, Hunting Heritage Get Upgrade from RMEF Grants
MISSOULA, Mont.—The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation awarded $148,800 in grants to acquire and enhance elk habitat in Pennsylvania, as well as to help fund more than 20 youth hunting heritage and other projects around the state.
