Obituary Notice: Robert M. Carles

Robert M. Carles, 83, of Morrisdale died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at UPMC Altoona. Born Nov. 25, 1930 in Morrisdale, he was the son of the late Joseph Jr. and Pearl Price Carles.

Mr. Carles was affiliated with the First Baptist Church, Philipsburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he served as a corporal. Mr. Carles was a member of the Philipsburg VFW, the Carpathian Club, Hawk Run, and the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, Frenchville.

He was a heavy equipment operator. He had worked in the maintenance department for Penn State.

He married Martha M. Folmer Carles on March 6, 1952 at the St. Agnes Parsonage, Morrisdale. She survives in Morrisdale.

Mr. Carles is survived by two sons, Ronald L. Carles and his wife, Jeanette of Houtzdale and Robert J. Carles and his wife, Carol of Morrisdale and two sisters, Louise Alberts of Conway and Rosalie Brown and her husband of Philipsburg; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Ann Merritts.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, with the Pastor Ted Seibert officiating. Burial will be in the Allport Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Military graveside honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
