UNIVERSITY PARK – Juried student work will be on view in a series of exhibitions across campus and downtown State College, collectively titled “Storied Images: Marcellus Shale,” during the Marcellus Shale Gallery Crawl from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2.
Supported in part by a Reinvention Fund grant through Penn State’s Sustainability Institute, these satellite exhibitions intend to promote critical discourse on sustainability and the extraction of Marcellus Shale through expanding the conversation to multiple disciplines. Each gallery crawl location will also feature special activities and refreshments, and pedicab services will be available.
Participating venues include Borland Gallery, Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum and Art Gallery, the Downsbrough Community Room at the Schlow Centre Region Library, HUB-Robeson Galleries (Art Alley) and the Palmer Museum of Art, where the large exhibition organized by the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, “Marcellus Shale Documentary Project,” will be on view and joined by photographers Brian Cohen, Martha Rial, Noah Addis and Scott Goldsmith. Both the positive and negative results of the recent boom in the gas industry will be discussed, as well as, how the environment and communities that live with the resources are being shaped.
