Clearfield Historical Society Board Makes Plans for Bloody Knox

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Historical Society Board of Directors met for their monthly planning meeting on Tuesday at the Kerr House.

The board heard a report about the upcoming Bloody Knox fall festival. The festival will take place on Oct. 12 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The public is invited to come enjoy broom making, blacksmithing apple butter and apple cider.

There will be food cooking over the open fire and butter making and tasting with cornbread. The first 100 kids will be able to decorate a pumpkin.

The history of the Bloody Knox event will be presented, as well as what life was like in the middle 19th century. The public is also invited to the egg toss at 2 p.m.

There is no charge for the event.

Plans for the society’s annual dinner were also discussed at the meeting. The dinner is being sponsored this year by CNB Bank, John Yount/Janney Montgomery Scott Investments and Penn Highlands Clearfield. The dinner will be held at St. Timothy’s Social Hall on Oct. 23.

A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with the meal and program to follow. This year’s program will be “Clearfield County in the Civil War: A Drama” planned by Gayle Gearhart. The cost of the dinner is $25, and reservations can be made by contacting the museum at 814-765-6125.

An update on the development of the new William B. Alexander V Research Center was given, and the board toured the new facility. Plans continue for moving the society’s genealogical and historical records this winter and a projected opening date of the first Sunday in May of 2015 is planned.

An open house will be planned for the spring and the public will be invited to view the new facility. The society is actively seeking tax deductible gifts to help in the financial goal needed to open the new center.
