Dorothy M. “Dot” Smith, 86, of DuBois died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at the DuBois Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Ralph E. “Smitty” Smith Jr., whom she married Aug. 7, 1949 and whom died Oct. 3, 2000.
Born Dec. 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Lorene (Hepfner) Reasinger. Mrs. Smith was employed as a nursing assistant for 17 years at Christ the King Manor, DuBois, until retiring in 1989.
She attended DuBois Area High School. She lived her entire life in DuBois. She enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid reader.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, DuBois.
Surviving are a daughter and a son, Lori M. “Cooky” Beck and her husband, Carl of Chula Vista, Calif., and Preston D. Smith of DuBois; three foster daughters, Debra L. Hall of Irvin, Texas; Terry Behring and her husband, Bruce of Chico, Texas; and Vicky Heilburn of DuBois; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Mae Nelson of Savannah, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a granddaughter, Desiree Smith; three sisters, Velma Rae Blackwill, Helen Jean Aber and Gladys McCrea; and five brothers, Robert, Charles, Donald, Harry Jr. and Delbert Reasinger.
A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy M. “Dot” Smith will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel Inc., DuBois.
A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
