The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will present “All About the Moon,” beginning Saturday, Sept. 13 and continuing through Nov. 1. Highlights are “The Moon: Cosmic Decoder Ring” 3D exhibit, a mini “planetarium,” moon folklore and myths and video features about the moon in our theater.

Is the Moon Made of Cheese, Part I

For children grades pre-school through middle school, “Is the Moon Made of Cheese? Part I” will be held twice on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

The two-hour program features activities centered around moon myths and facts and includes time with the exhibits. The cost is $7 per child.

Muddy Run Raceway

Muddy Run Raceway is the home to all kinds of mud racing. Beginning in 1990, families from across Pennsylvania and surrounding states would pack up their cars and head out to Smoke Run for a day of mud splashing and crashing. The races include classes for ATVs, cars, 4×4 street trucks and professional trucks.

Admission fees to Muddy Run Raceway events are $15 for adults, $5 for children (ages 6-12 years) and free for ages 5 years and under. The gates open at 8:30 a.m. and racing starts at 12 p.m. Muddy Run Raceway is located in Smoke Run. For more information, please call 814-378-5723.

The DuBois Public Library has announced its story time sessions for 2014-15.

On Tuesdays at 10 a.m., “Babies & Books” will be held with Miss Becky. Babies who are up to 2 years old and their parent/caregiver can participate in this interactive story time full of finger-plays, songs, stories and bonding time.

On Tuesdays at 11 a.m., “Thrilling Threes” will be held with Miss Chris and Miss Jayme. Children will enjoy stories, songs, finger-plays and fun. Children will work on their independence, while their parents can enjoy the library.

On Thursdays at 10 a.m., “Terrific Twos” will be held with Miss Becky. During this program, 2-year-olds and their parent/caregiver will enjoy this fun-filled story time that will be packed with books, songs and finger-plays.

On Thursdays at 11 a.m., “Fantastic Fours & Fives” will be held with Miss Chris and Miss Sandy. During this program, children will get ready for school with stories, songs and games galore.  Children will work on their independence, while their parents can enjoy the library.

Join one of the park’s educators each September Wednesday evening in the Environmental Education Classroom at 6 p.m. to learn methods we can each use to live more naturally, keep common toxins out of our homes, save money and reduce our environmental footprint.

Note: A $3 program fee and pre-registration is required for this program.

Natural soap making is a traditional craft using natural products that (once finished) do not harm our health or our environment.  Join us as we discuss and demonstrate the process of soap making in the traditional way.  Participants will learn how to make their own soap and discover which of the various ingredients may be beneficial to them.  Contact the Park Office to get more information or to pre-register by calling: 814-765-0630, or emailing: parkerdamee@pa.gov.

The Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce will host a grant writing seminar with Lisa Kovalick, Clearfield County community development specialist, as the presenter. It will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

This grant presentation covers prospecting for funding, understanding a request for proposal, program planning and proposal writing. You will leave having a better understanding of the characteristic and practices of funders to find the right match for you and your organization. You will review in detail funding agencies requests, as well as delving into the components of a successful grant proposal.

Snake in the Grass, CAST Theatre

The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre announced that its September play, a thriller titled “Murder in Green Meadows” is being exchanged for another thriller, “Snake in the Grass,” a story that revolves around three women.

“Snake in the Grass” will run Sept. 18-20 and Sept. 25-27 with curtain call at 7 p.m. each evening.  Tickets are $8 and can be reserved by calling the CAST office at 814-765-4474.  Tickets can also be purchased at the box office each show night.
