Carl W. “Bill” Dixon, 90, of DuBois died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at UPMC Altoona.
Born Aug. 19, 1924 in Sabula, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Mary A. (Hildebrand) Dixon.
On Oct. 2, 1948, he married Ruth (Hoover) Dixon. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2013.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Co. C, 12th Infantry, Fourth Division.
He retired from Symco Inc. in Sykesville. Prior to that, he worked at Armagost Steel and Sekula Signs.
Mr. Dixon was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in DuBois. He was a member of the Garfield Lodge 559 Free & Accepted Masons and the Coudersport Consistory. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He’s survived by two children, Paul W. Dixon and his wife, Patty of Altoona and Karen A. Michael of DuBois; two brothers, Joe Dixon of Clearwater, Fla. and Wilford Dixon of Sabula; five grandchildren, Michael Murray, McKenna Dixon, Marina Dixon, Christina Kinder and Dylan Michael; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Dixon; three brothers, Kenneth, Charles and James Dixon; and three sisters, Lenora Dixon, Marceline Strong and Viola McCracken.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Kelley Schanely officiating.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
