Woman Pleads Guilty to Taking Drugs from Nursing Home
CLEARFIELD – A Brockway woman accused of taking drugs from a nursing home has pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
Francene P. Galentine, 37, of 61 Beechton Dr., Brockway, pleaded guilty to acquiring or obtaining possession of controlled substance by misrepresentation, possession of a controlled substance and theft by unlawful taking.
DuBois Man Pleads Guilty to Selling Marijuana
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man has pleaded guilty to selling marijuana in Clearfield County Court.
Thomas W. Kiehlmeier, 28, 112 S. Jared St., DuBois, pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance-marijuana, criminal use of communication facility and possession of drug paraphernalia in two cases.
He was sentenced by Judge Paul E. Cherry to 90 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation.
Man Gets State Prison for Selling Drugs
CLEARFIELD – A former Hyde man charged with selling drugs was sentenced to state prison during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Darrell L. Taylor, 24, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, criminal use of communication facility and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sandy Police Investigate Home Burglary Reports
DUBOIS – The Sandy Township police have received a report about an alleged home burglary that occurred on East DuBois Avenue.
This home burglary, police said, is similar to one that was previously reported to the department. According to the previous report, an unknown male allegedly distracted a woman by asking about her property lines. At the same time, another male allegedly removed items from the woman’s residence, police said.
Public Meeting, Hearing to be held on Philipsburg Rod and Gun Club Trap Shooting Range
WILLIAMSPORT — The departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) will hold a public meeting and public hearing to discuss plans to clean up lead contamination at the Philipsburg Rod and Gun Club’s (PRGC) trap shooting range located within Black Moshannon State Park in Rush Township, Centre County.
Sandy Supers Support Clearfield County Teen Court

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors received a thank you letter from the Teen Court of Clearfield County Association for its consistent financial support, along with a donation request for this year’s association meetings.
The Teen Court has been operating for 20 years and includes 10 area school districts. Funds go to support mock trial situations where, according to Supervisor Dave Sylvis, “…teens learn the judicial system and how it operates.”
Administrators Dedicate New Clearfield Junior-Senior High School
CLEARFIELD – Nearly 40 years after its original dedication in 1975, members of the administration, school board and faculty and staff gathered with the community to dedicate the new Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School to its students on Monday evening.
Beginning this academic year, the district will have two school campuses. It invested $35 million to convert the former Clearfield High School into a campus for seventh through 12th grade students. At the new CAJSHS campus, it also completed upgrades to Bison sports facilities, including the tennis courts, stadium and athletic fields.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s top cleric says extremism and the ideologies of groups like the Islamic State and al-Qaida are Islam’s top enemy and that Muslims have been their first victims.
Grand Mufti Sheik Abdul-Aziz Al-Sheik says extremism and terrorism do not belong to Islam and that the followers of these groups do not follow Islam.
LT Supers Announce Mill Road Closings for Paving
CLEARFIELD – With paving under way on Mill Road, the Lawrence Township Supervisors announced at last night’s meeting that Mill Road will be closed today and Thursday from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. from Park Street to and including Weaver Street.
Clearfield School Board Debates Hiring Practices, Consideration of Long-term Substitutes
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District’s Board of Directors debated its hiring practices and the amount of consideration given to its long-term substitute teachers during Monday night’s Education and Personnel Committee meeting.
Superintendent Terry Struble asked the board to consider approving a daily substitute teacher rate of $90. Of the districts sending to the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center, he said Clearfield had the lowest daily substitute rate at $80. Struble hoped the $10 boost would increase its pool of available substitutes.
HARRISBURG – Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane today announced the arrest of a former State College area psychologist following an investigation into allegations that he had inappropriate sexual relationships with two patients and fraudulently billed their insurance companies for services he never performed.
According to the criminal complaint, Dr. Richard Lenhart, 53, 293 Homan Ave., State College, used the guise of treatment to sexually assault two female patients under his care. Lenhart maintained a private practice located at 137 S. Pugh St., State College.
U.S. Supreme Court Stays VA Appeals Court’s Ruling Allowing Same-Sex Marriages

Richmond, VA, United States (4E) – The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the ruling of a federal appeals court in Richmond allowing same-sex couples in Virginia to marry.
The stay was in response to last week’s appeal by opponents to same-sex marriage, including Prince William County Circuit Court Clerk Michele B. McQuigg. They argued that allowing same-sex couples to marry without the Supreme Court’s review could create “uncertainty for the public” and “irreparable injury to the commonwealth.”
Attorney General Mark R. Herring, who refused to defend Virginia’s marriage amendment, also asked the Supreme Court to allow the stay.
LT Supers Hear about Blighted Property Issue
CLEARFIELD – David McBride asked the Lawrence Township Supervisors for help at Tuesday night’s meeting regarding an abandoned property neighboring his business.
McBride noted the house had been previously condemned, and has been empty for a long time. He said he’d be willing to purchase the property that’s up for tax sale, but the cost of demolition is estimated at $12,000 and he couldn’t afford to invest that much into the parcel.
Osceola Mills Man Waives Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats Charges
CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man who allegedly assaulted and threatened to shock his son for missing the toilet waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
David L. Bainey, 35, of Osceola Mills has been charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and possession of incapacitation device. His bail has been set at $50,000 monetary.

PUNXSUTAWNEY (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man is facing 85 counts relating to an alleged incident that began on Aug. 4 in which he threatened to stab the victim’s son, her friend and then the victim “in the heart over and over again.”
According to court documents, Patrick Albert Simon, 38, of Punxsutawney is facing charges of stalking, harassment and terroristic threats. On Aug. 6, Officer Heath Zeitler took a complaint from a female victim who arrived at the Punxsutawney Borough police station and reported being “deathly afraid” of Simon harming her, her son and other friends.
Man Accused of Setting Wildfires Waives Charges
CLEARFIELD – A Cherry Tree man accused of setting two wildfires in Burnside Borough waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Troy Michael Solley Jr., 19, of Cherry Tree has been charged with two counts each of reckless burning or exploding, risking catastrophe and failure to control; one count of dangerous burning; and four counts of statement under penalty, according to online court documents. His bail is currently set at $25,000 unsecured.
Game Commission to Host Aug. 28 Meeting on CWD in DuBois
DUBOIS – Those who want to learn more about chronic wasting disease, and the rules that apply within areas of the state where the disease has been detected, can attend a public meeting to be held next week in DuBois.
The meeting, to be hosted by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and held Aug. 28 in the auditorium at DuBois Area Senior High School, is slated to begin at 6 p.m. The high school is located at 425 Orient Ave. in DuBois. Doors will open at about 5 p.m.
U.S. Dept. of Transportation Announces Grant for Safety Renovations at DuBois Regional Airport
BELLEFONTE – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a $273,272 grant to the DuBois Regional Airport Authority.
“This grant will support essential operational upgrades at DuBois Regional Airport that will benefit the safety of both the traveling public and local airport operators,” stated Thompson.
Taste of Home Cooking School Attracting Businesses

Clearfield Borough Acts on Parking, Roofing and Political Associations
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council held lengthy discussions on three, main issues at last night’s meeting.
Councilman Brian Lytle, the only Public Works Committee member to vote in favor of a recommendation for removing time-constrained no parking signs on Second Street, re-introduced the issue to council.
Lytle had received several comments since the committee meeting, noting it seems important to those in town. He thought it was an opportunity to make a good-faith gesture for the community.
Penn State DuBois Welcomes New Students
DUBOIS – Around 230 students from across the country and around the globe officially became part of the DuBois community on Thursday at Convocation Ceremonies and New Student Orientation at Penn State DuBois.
