Zurat Unable To Snuff Out Volcanoes’ Eruption

KEIZER, Ore. — Chad Zurat (Clearfield) was one of three Tri-City Dust Devil pitchers roughed up by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in a 12-5 Northwest League loss in front of 3,356 fans at Volcanoes Stadium Thursday night.

The Dust Devils were down 10-1 when Zurat went to the mound in the sixth inning, and the Volcanoes tacked on their final two runs with three hits, including a triple and a double with two outs.

Tri-City slipped under .500 at 13-14 but still is clinging to a half-game lead over Vancouver in the North Division’s second-half race.

Zurat (1-0) has worked 17 innings in eight appearances with 14 strikeouts and five walks. He has given up 30 hits and 21 runs, 19 earned.
