Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists to Provide Services in Tyrone

TYRONE – ENT Associates of Central Pennsylvania, the premiere ENT practice in the region, has announced plans to expand their practice with the addition of an office location on the Tyrone Regional Health Network (TRHN) campus. The office will open Sept. 8.

Ear, Nose & Throat Associates of Central Pennsylvania offers state-of-the-art and comprehensive specialized care for ENT disorders in both children and adults. ENT care will include Hearing Solutions, which offers superior hearing healthcare including hearing tests and hearing aids.

Services including non-surgical and surgical ENT care will be provided by Richard Charles Howells II, M.D., F.A.C.S., Robert J. Caughey, M.D. and audiologist Dr. Amy Nedostup. Howells and Caughey are members of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff and will perform surgery at Tyrone.

Stephen C. Gildea, chief executive officer of Tyrone Hospital and TRHN, said ENT Associates is an exciting addition to Tyrone’s growing network. “This brings more specialized services closer to home for people who reside in our service area.”

Specialized services will be offered to address a wide variety of ENT related conditions, including sinus and allergy, hearing and balance, snoring and sleep apnea, head and neck surgery, otology, pediatric ear, nose and throat careand voice and swallowing disorders.

Howells is board certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His training and experience include unique competencies in the treatment of the entire spectrum of Ear, Nose and Throat disease.

He is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, W.Va. He completed his general surgery internship and Residency at the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, West Virginia University.

His professional affiliations include the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Blair County Medical Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Professional articles by Howells have been published in medical periodicals including the American Journal of Rhinology and Otolaryngology Head Neck Surgery.  He has also conducted a number of ENT studies in cooperation with medical researchers at West Virginia University and Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine.

Howells resides in Hollidaysburg with his wife Stephanie and their three sons. He enjoys cycling, skiing and a variety of outdoor activities.

Caughey is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh. He completed a general surgery internship and Residency at the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, at University of Virginia Health System.

His professional affiliations include the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Blair County Medical Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology, Virginia Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and American Medical Association.

Studies co-authored by Caughey have been presented at meetings of the American
Otological Society and published in professional periodicals including the American Journal of Rhinology.

Caughey resides in Hollidaysburg with his wife, Anne and their daughters. His enjoys running, golf and hockey.

Nedostup is licensed in Pennsylvania, nationally certified by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She provides comprehensive audiology services including audiological and vestibular evaluations and rehabilitation including hearing aid services for all ages.

Nedostup obtained her Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University. Additionally, she holds a master’s degree in audiology from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Sciences from The Ohio State University.

Nedostup’s professional experience includes serving as an investigator at the U.S. Army’s Aeromedical Laboratory in Fort Rucker, Ala., where she researched effective treatments for tinnitus in the military population and the auditory and vestibular effects of blast induced traumatic brain injury in the active duty soldier.  She practiced in Washington State as the director of Northwest Hearing Center and in Tennessee at The Center for Audiology.

Nedostup is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. She currently resides in Hollidaysburg with her two sons and her husband Wil.  She enjoys hiking and camping.
