Oktoberfest Slated for Oct. 4-5 in Curwensville
CURWENSVILLE – The board of directors and the special events committee for the Curwensville Community Center will host an Oktoberfest Family Festival on Oct. 4-5.
The festival will celebrate the arrival of fall in the region with an array of indoor and outdoor activities. It will feature family games, contests, food, regional merchants, art and artisan displays, live entertainment and fireworks.
CLEARFIELD – PennDOT Clearfield County Sign Crew members placed signage on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County near Exit 133 (Kylertown/Philipsburg). An 88-mile stretch of the highway was posted at 70 miles per hour this morning as part of a pilot project.
Ongoing Blighted Property Repairs Spur DuBois City to Draft Ordinance

DUBOIS – Ongoing property repairs at 505 W. Long Ave. have spurred the DuBois City Council to draft an ordinance, which would entitle code enforcement officials to first notify, then fine property owners who failed to improve blighted property.
PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP (EYT) – A Brookville man has been charged with criminal attempt/homicide along with previous charges stemming from an aggravated assault that occurred around 11:34 p.m. Aug. 7, at a residence along state Route 28, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County, according to state police at Punxsutawney.
DuBois City Discusses Source Water Protection Plan

DUBOIS – In collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), members of the DuBois City Council discussed their intent to move forward and continue reviewing a Source Water Protection Plan for the City of DuBois.
The Protection Plan is free and, once enacted, it would seek to identify and protect problem areas, which could be vulnerable to contamination.
County OKs Application for Affordable Housing, Rehabilitation Enhancement Funds
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved applying for funding that would continue to help area residents who need affordable housing and home rehabilitation.
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) recently solicited applications for Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Funds (PHARE). PHARE Funds assist with the creation, rehabilitation and support of affordable housing throughout the state, according to Clearfield County Planning Director Jodi Brennan.
Trustees Adopt Court Settlement Resolution
Penn State’s Board of Trustees, following approximately one hour of public discussion today voted 19-8 with two abstentions to adopt a resolution supporting a possible court case settlement that would keep in Pennsylvania $60 million in fine money paid by the University as part of the NCAA Consent Decree.
Pennsylvania Adopts New Guidelines for Pain Treatment in Emergency Rooms
HARRISBURG – The departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs and Health, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, has announced the adoption of new guidelines for pain treatment to be used in hospital emergency departments statewide.
As part of his plan to reduce prescription drug abuse and overdoses inPennsylvania, Governor Corbett directed the departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) and Health (DOH) to establish the Safe and Effective Prescribing Practices and Pain Management Task Force to work toward safer prescribing practices in the state.
Osceola Mills Man Accused of Assaulting, Threatening to Shock Son
HOUTZDALE – Charges have been filed against an Osceola Mills man who allegedly assaulted and threatened to shock his son for missing the toilet, according to the office of Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins.
David L. Bainey, 35, of Osceola Mills has been charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and possession of incapacitation device. His bail has been set at $50,000 monetary.
Clearfield Borough Councilman Accused of Assaulting, Threatening Girlfriend Headed for Trial
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield Borough Councilman accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend had all charges held for court by Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins after a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Richard Dean Stewart, 46, of Clearfield will stand trial on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. The charges stem from an alleged domestic assault that occurred Aug. 5 at an East Market Street apartment.
State Police Investigating Attempted Homicide/Suicide
HORTON TOWNSHIP – The investigation is continuing into an attempted homicide/suicide that occurred Wednesday at the Brockport Army & Navy Club in Horton Township, reported state police at Ridgway.
The victim, a 20-year-old Brockport woman, was bartending at the club. At the time, a 31-year-old Brockway man allegedly became upset with the woman who was attempting to close the bar. When an argument ensued, the woman attempted to get the man to leave the club.
Ritz Pays Off Loan from Clearfield Revitalization
CLEARFIELD – Bob Knepp, owner of the Ritz Theater in downtown Clearfield, recently paid off a $30,000 “grant-to-loan” that was courtesy of the Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC).
The CRC established the grant-to-loan program in Clearfield to help the theater and the “Save the Ritz” committee to procure their first digital projector with funds granted by the state Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED).
Clearfield Man Waives Assault Charges
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of an aggravated assault incident involving a knife waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
William Charles Asuzu Jr., 30, of Clearfield has been charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment. His bail remains set at $50,000 monetary.
