CLEARFIELD – Work to rehabilitate a bridge in Houtzdale will start Monday and will feature a detour.
The state-owned bridge spans Beaver Run on Stamp Works Road. Rehabilitation work will keep the bridge in service for years to come and allow PennDOT to remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
Since the work requires closing the bridge, a detour will be in place. The half-mile detour uses Township Road 302 (Ida Street) and Township Road 245 (Beech Street). The closure and detour will be in effect until mid-November.
Originally built in 1952, the current, open-grate bridge is 30 feet long and carries and average of 205 vehicles each day. It is currently posted for 28 tons for single vehicles and 39 tons for combination vehicles. Rehabilitation work will remove the weight posting.
Overall work includes replacement of the bridge superstructure, approach work, minor drainage improvements, and guiderail improvements on Ida Street and Beech Street.
The contractor for this $293,000 job is Wen-Brook Contracting, Inc. of Three Springs. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
