Richard Lee Rhoades Sr., 75, of Houtzdale died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Windy Hill Village, a part of Presbyterian Senior Living, Philipsburg.
Born June 4, 1939 in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Percy Russell and Josephine Viola (Bathurst) Rhoades. He was a heavy equipment operator and retired from PennDOT (Bellefonte and Port Matilda).
Mr. Rhoades was a member of the United Methodist Church, Almonsville, and also served as a deacon.
He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.
While residing at Windy Hill, he was president of the council; a member of PEERS; and performed the bell ringing.
On Jan. 26, 1962 at the United Brethren Church in Julian, he married Pansy Mae (Martin) Rhoades, who survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he’s survived by three children, Tina Marie Robison and her husband, Gerald of Julian; Richard Lee Rhoades Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Ojai, Calif.; and Dorinda Mae Knepp and her husband, Robert of Osceola Mills.
Also surviving are a sister, Sharon Matyasi of Wadesworth, Ohio and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Berdie Lou Peters; and four brothers Michael Rhoades, Thomas Rhoades, Harrison Rhoades and Percy Rhoades Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Peggy Bonsell officiating.
Burial will follow at Grays Cemetery, Halfmoon Township.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
