Railroad Crossing Work to Start Aug. 22 in Penfield

Detour will be in effect as repairs take place

DUBOIS – Work to repair a railroad crossing on Route 153 (Hooverstown Road) in Huston Township is scheduled for Aug. 22-26. Crews from the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad will be working to replace the highway railroad crossing in the village of Penfield.

A detour will be in effect for five days while the project is completed.

Northbound Route 153 motorists will use Interstate 80 west to Route 255 north at Exit 101 (DuBois/Penfield). Those traveling southbound will use Route 255 south to I-80 east at Exit 111 (Clearfield/Penfield) where they will rejoin Route 153 south. All work is weather dependent.

A contractor for Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad will remove the existing concrete surface, re-establish the rail base and install a new bituminous surface. The rail work is expected to be complete late Aug. 25, allowing for traffic on the roadway on the morning of Aug. 26.

Meanwhile, on Aug. 22, a crew from PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance will replace and realign a deteriorated pipe near the crossing. They will also complete saw-cutting work and prepare the roadway surface for new approaches.

PennDOT reminds drivers to follow official detour signing, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
