Schedule Changed for Bridge Beam Replacement Project in Centre County

Project to start Aug. 18; detour will be in place

STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace beams on a state-owned bridge in Centre County will start Aug. 18.

At that time, the bridge will be closed and a detour will be in place. The bridge spans Half Moon Creek on Township Road 966 (Marengo Road) in Ferguson Township, about 3.6 miles south of the village of Centennial. Beam replacement will keep the bridge in service for years to come.

Work was originally to start Aug. 11, but the schedule was updated to accommodate higher than normal traffic for Penn State’s Ag Progress Days.

Originally built in 1908 and reconstructed in 1977, the bridge is 21 feet long and carries more than 430 vehicles each day.

PennDOT’s official detour will direct motorists to use T-307 (West Gatesburg Road), T-965 (Tadpole Road) and T-966 (Marengo Road).

Crews from PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will perform the replacement work, which is weather and schedule dependent. Work is expected to last until early September. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
