Clearfield Commissioners Open Courthouse Painting Bids

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners opened bids for the exterior painting of the courthouse at yesterday’s work session.

The commissioners received two bids for the painting project. ARS Inc. of Bridgeville submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $253,000. A second bid from A.J. Vater & Co. Inc. of McKees Rocks was for $282,487.

Chief Clerk Lisa McFadden asked the commissioners if they wanted to approve a bid package pending the engineer’s review. She noted there were concerns about the timeframe for the painting project.

Solicitor Kim Kesner advised it was best for the commissioners to table action on the painting bids until the engineer could review their specifications.

The commissioners voted, 2-0, to table action on the painting bids until next week’s regular meeting. Commissioner Mark B. McCracken was absent from the work session.

In other business, the commissioners approved the purchase of Accurint software through LexisNexis for the county’s Assessment and Tax Claim’s Office. It was noted that the software costs $180 per month and requires a yearly subscription with at least two users.

The Accurint software will assist with locating people with invested interests in properties to be included in the county’s judicial and upset sales. It was noted that staff members in the Assessment and Tax Claim’s Office have spent countless hours trying to locate people but oftentimes don’t have any success.

Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen also announced the county will have a “Community Shred Day.” It will be held from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Aug. 14 outside of the Clearfield County Administrative Offices at 212 E. Locust St., Clearfield.

A mobile shred truck, she said, will be at the CCAO to accept documents to be shredded from area residents. She emphasized that the shredding service is utilized by the county and trustworthy.
