James Eric Hinchliffe, 84, of Houtzdale died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg.

Born Dec. 29, 1929 in Woodland, he was the son of the late James and L. Lorraine (Kyler) Hinchliffe.  He married Eleanor J. (Slabon) Hinchliffe on Dec. 25, 1951 in Philipsburg; she survives at home.

Mr. Hinchliffe was a member of the Faith United Lutheran Church in Houtzdale.  He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Hinchliffe retired from the Moshannon Valley School District as the elementary principal.  He was a 1947 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School, a 1956 graduate of the Lock Haven College and received his Master’s degree in education from Penn State University in 1966.

He was a member of the Osceola Lodge No. 515 F&AM in Osceola Mills. He was also the Worshipful Master in 1969.

In addition to his wife, he’s survived by two daughters, Joyce Ann Beres  and her husband, Chester of Osceola Mills and Rita Stodart and her husband, Mark of Houtzdale; a son, Mark J. Hinchliffe and his wife, Cindy of Woodland; a sister, Marita Socie of Tonawanda, NY; and a brother, Franklin A. Hinchliffe of McElhattan.

He’s also survived by eight grandchildren, Heidi Dugan, Adam Beres, Kirk Beres, Erica Hinchliffe, James Hinchliffe, Joseph Hinchliffe, Craig Stodart and Ben Stodart and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Dugan and Jacob Dugan.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Thomas A. McCoy officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Masonic memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
