Man Gets Jail for Stealing More Than $16,000 Worth of Items, Rifle
CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man will be spending time in jail for the theft of more than $16,000 worth of items and a rifle.
Michael Alan Roberts, 25, 1285 Center Rd., Osceola Mills, pleaded guilty to felony counts of theft by unlawful taking in two cases.
He was sentenced to six months to two years less one day in jail and four years consecutive probation.
He was filed $1,000 plus costs and must pay more than $16,900 in restitution. He must also complete a drug and alcohol awareness program.
Blueprint Communities Team to Host Training Sessions
CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Area Blueprint Communities Team will host four, different training sessions on building and strengthening organizations.
The training sessions will be presented by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and the Penn State University Extension in August.
Chelsea Folmar Crowned 2014 Clearfield County Fair Queen
CLEARFIELD – Taylor Rae Goodman of Curwensville ended her reign as the Clearfield County Fair Queen on her birthday. She celebrated by crowning Chelsea Folmar of Luthersburg as the 26th fair queen Sunday at the grandstand stage.
Recipes Sought from Local Home Cooks
CLEARFIELD – GantDaily.com is seeking appetizing, fun and naughtily-pleasing recipes from the kitchens of home cooks in the central Pennsylvania region.
It’s holding a recipe contest in conjunction with the Taste of Home Cooking School. The cooking school is being held Sept. 20 at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds.

Employee Theft Suspect Withdraws Plea
CLEARFIELD – A former DuBois woman charged with stealing from two, different employers was recently scheduled to be sentenced during plea and sentencing court.
Mary Beth Bawden, 53, whose address is now listed as Erie, is charged with access device issued to another and eight counts of theft by unlawful taking in one case and a felony count of theft by unlawful taking in the other case.
Mineral Springs Man Pleads Guilty to Selling Drugs
CLEARFIELD – A Mineral Springs man pleaded guilty to selling drugs during plea and sentencing court recently in Clearfield County.
Justin Christopher Wisor, 21, 2398 Hog Back Hill, Mineral Springs, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of communication facility in one case and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in a second case.
He was sentenced to 90 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. He was fined $1,050 plus costs. He was also ordered to complete drug and alcohol counseling.

In DuBois, Schmidt Thanks Council, Community for Supporting PA Senior League Championship
DUBOIS – On Monday night, Councilman Randy Schmidt thanked DuBois City Council and the local community for their support of the Pennsylvania Senior League State Championship Tournament.
According to him, six teams competed in the state tournament and traveled from as far away as Philadelphia to play ball in DuBois. The games, he said, were played at Showers Field.
“If you like it now, wait until you see it next year,” said Schmidt.
Community members and players were both polite, he said. It was noted that a hotel had staff members put baseball-shaped cookies on all of the players’ pillows.
Community Action Still Offering Home Heating Savings Account Program
CLEARFIELD – The Central Pennsylvania Community Action (CPCA) will continue to offer its Home Heating Savings Account Program.
The Home Heating Savings Account Program provides eligible households the ability to save money to help deter the high costs of heating their homes.
The Home Heating Savings Account will match one-to-one for every dollar a participant saves up to $250. The participant must save for a minimum of four consecutive months and a minimum of $50 must be saved each month.
House Passes Legislation to Expand Local Involvement in Federal Endangered Species Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has voted to support the 21st Century Endangered Species Transparency Act (H.R. 4315).
H.R. 4315 is a package of targeted forms to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that will enhance species recovery and improve government transparency. The bill passed by a vote of 233 to 190.
Thompson, a co-sponsor of the bill, is a member of the ESA Congressional Working Group, which developed the findings and recommendations for the proposal, and a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over the ESA.
Revitalization Corp. Receives Grant from Wal-Mart Supercenter
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) has received a $2,500 Local Giving Grant from the Wal-Mart Supercenter No. 2129.
The Local Giving Grant was used toward the second CRC Bloom and Berry Bash that was held on June 28. Additional funds will be used toward the CRC Fall Festival and Pumpkin Run 5K to be held in October.

CLEARFIELD – Last night, concertgoers were treated to the four-part harmonies and upbeat songs of the Oak Ridge Boys at the grandstand stage at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds.

Corbett Rallies in Support of American Energy Workers
HARRISBURG – On Wednesday, Gov. Tom Corbett rallied on behalf of working families in Pennsylvania’s energy sector.
Joined at the Rally to Support American Energy in Pittsburgh by West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, Corbett criticized the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) recent proposed rule for power plant emissions reduction, which could result in significant job loss in Pennsylvania.
Bozovich to Resign as Main Street Manager
CLEARFIELD – Heather Bozovich will leave her position as the Clearfield Revitalization Corp.’s Main Street manager on Friday.
Bozovich has decided to pursue a private practice with an attorney in DuBois. She said Chris Renaud, director of planning and development, will fill in until the CRC names a new Main Street manager.
Hearing Continued for Former Office Manager Accused of Stealing from Accounting Firm
CLEARFIELD – A former office manager accused of stealing more than $107,000 from Walter Hopkins and Company LLP of Clearfield had her preliminary hearing continued until Aug. 13 during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Jonelle S. Smeal, 47, of Woodland has been charged with theft by unlawful taking (101 counts); theft by deception (34 counts); forgery (66 counts); access device issued to another who did not authorize use (42 counts); other reason access device is unauthorized by issuer (42 counts); receiving stolen property (101 counts); and tampering with records or ID-writing.
Thompson Supports Legislation to Reform Dept. of Veteran Affairs Health Care System
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) voted to support H.R. 3230, the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act.
The House passed with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 420 to 5. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Obama.
“This afternoon the House passed bipartisan legislation that will begin the process of reforming the Veterans Health Administration and instituting great accountability across our veteran health care system,” stated Thompson.

School District Announces Orientations, Open Houses and Building Dedications
HYDE – Officials with the Clearfield Area School District have announced upcoming orientation, open house and school building dedication events.
Fair Board Donates to Clearfield Charitable Foundation, Special Olympics
CLEARFIELD – Members of the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board have announced donations to two Clearfield County-based charitable organizations.
Last month, the board received a $10,000 grant from the Clearfield County Commissioners. The grant enabled the board to waive the $1 admission fee for Sunday.

CLEARFIELD – American country pop duo, Florida Georgia Line, rocked the grandstand stage last night before a sea of fans at the Clearfield County Fair.
Florida Georgia Line burst into the country spotlight with the release of their 2012 multi-platinum selling single, “Cruise.” The song soared to the top of the charts and sold more than 6.3 million downloads.

Halestorm Rocks Clearfield Fair
CLEARFIELD – Last night, Grammy award winner, Halestorm, rocked the grandstand at the 154th annual Clearfield County Fair.
Halestorm took the stage with “I Miss the Misery,” a song featuring the vocals of front woman, Lzzy Hale. An hour into the rock group’s performance, Arejay Hale treated concertgoers to his drumming skills.
